About Bhilai
Bhilai is home to one of the world's largest steel plants and is surrounded by mines and other factories. This is also the second largest city of the Chattisgarh State, and has a rich and cosmopolitan culture. The majority of the inhabitants of the city are the employees of the plant, who have settled here from all over India.
Sightseeing Highlights:
Start with a visit to the Steel Plant, where you could see the blast furnace, rail and structure mill, plate mill etc.
The major entertainment area is Maitribagh, located below the town, and maintained by the Bhilai Steel Plant Management. It was built to commemorate the friendship between Russia and India. There is a zoo with white tigers as the main attraction, along with a toy train, a children's park, and Asia's biggest musical fountain. It also plays host to a flower show held annually.
3kms from Bhilai, visit the Oldest Shiv Temple, at Deobalod. And 2kms from the district of Durg you could visit the famous Jain Temples and Pasharwanath Tirth at Nagpura.
Head out further, to Dhamdha 35 kms from Durg, home to the oldest palace, also called Prachin Kila and a temple. Or you could also visit Balod, 58kms from Durg to another ancient palace and its many temples. Siyadevi is 20kms furthr away and has the Sita Maiya Temple amidst a jungle.
To see some great waterfalls visit Hajra, 100kms from Bhilai, where you can enjoy the sight of the 150 feet high cascading falls. Or visit the Tandula Dam, 60kms from Durg, and Kharkhara Dam, 95kms from Durg.
